In the past Santa Claus has held a monopoly on Christmas costumes. The only problem is that at any given time, there should only be one Santa present. This makes it awkward to dress children in Santa suits for a Christmas party. Luckily there is one Christmas character which has enjoyed a surge in popularity, and it is the Christmas elf. You can use an elf costume to create the perfect children's party.

In the years passed, Santa suits have sold very well. Every adult at one time or another wants to play Santa to the child. In the last few years, the sale of elf outfits has continually risen. Since there have been several movies released which feature elves as the hard working creatures that they are, people have begun to see a little bit of themselves in them. The great thing about dressing up as an elf is that it is not a gender specific costume. This allows both genders to don the likeness of an elf.

The typical elf ensemble will include at the very least a jacket, soft pointy toed shoes and a hat to match. The outfits will vary according to how much you want to pay for them. They can become very elaborate with matching shirt and tights with coordinating shorts to complete the outfit. Jingle bells and pointed ears are optional, but if you're looking for authenticity they are a great touch.

Costume colors will vary, but the traditional garb will be green or red. These are the two most recognized traditional Christmas colors, so it is only fitting that Santa's elves would be dressed as such. In the majority of cases the outfits will be a mixture of the green and red, which makes the most festive appearance.

Children look particularly adorable in red jackets with green pants or green shorts with red tights. While dressed in costume, allow the kids to make ornaments or decorate pre-baked gingerbread men for a fun party activity.

Most children love the idea of Santa's elves and his workshop. If you would like to make every creation of Santa's workshop, you can do so by posting a children's party complete with an elf costume for each child and projects to build. All you need is a few cookies to decorate and ornaments to assemble in order to have a fully functioning workshop.
